With the Iowa caucuses and the New Hampshire primary less than two months away the IAFF has stepped up its activities on behalf Senator Chris Dodd, its endorsed candidate for president of the United States.
Where did Chris Dodd get that white hair from?
Did it come from his time in the Peace Corps or in the military? Maybe it happened as he fought for seven years to pass the Family and Medical Leave Act? How about while negotiating peace in Central America and Northern Ireland, or his 26 years on the Foreign Relations Committee?
Dodd became the first presidential candidate to politicize the Southern California wildfires today while speaking in Chicago at an International Association of Fire Fighters conference. Saying that he is proud the federal government “has gotten funding down to those cities and jurisdictions” affected by the fires, he added, “For a fire this size, we still need more; I think we can do more, and I will.”
There’s a huge difference between people who are actual leaders and who happen to want to be President, and people who want to be President so they can be the leader. We’re seeing that difference right now in the debate over whether the FISA bill will award retroactive immunity to the telecoms for their complicity in the Bush Administration’s illegal spying programs.
At a press availability in Colorado a little while ago, Hillary commented on the Senate FISA bill and said that she would support a filibuster of the current legislation that's just emerged from the Senate intel committee, which contains telecom immunity.
The members of the International Association of Fire Fighters have no greater advocate or leader in the United States Senate than Chris Dodd (D-CT). His tireless work on behalf of fire fighters, emergency medical personnel and their families has helped make the fire fighting profession safer, more adequately funded and equitable to those on the frontline. Chris Dodd currently serves as the chair of the Congressional Fire Service Caucus and is one of only two recipients of the IAFF Lifetime Achievement Award.
.Larry Osborne, President Emeritus Jacksonville, Florida IAFF Local 122 was sworn in as the new 12th District Vice President of the IAFF in Washington DC on January 23rd. Larry is and always has been a good friend of Local 1365 and has provided a great deal of leadership and guidance to current and former Executive Board members of Local 1365. Larry replaces another good friend of Local 1365, Dominick Barbera who retired this past December. An interesting note about Larry,he rose all the way to the rank of Deputy Chief of Operations, Jacksonville Fire Rescue while still continuing to be a Union leader not only within Jacksonville's
local but the State of Florida and throughout the IAFF 12th District. Congratulations to Larry from Local 1365. READ MORE
